For almost fifty years, we have had the privilege of backing great entrepreneurs building iconic companies in technology and healthcare, including Atari, MCI, Nuance, Alibaba and Ultragenyx.  Today, F-Prime and its international sister fund, Eight Road Ventures, together are among the largest global VC firms in the world with several billion dollars under management, 300+ portfolio companies and over 100 investment professionals across our global platform.

We are proud of our 50-year history, but hey, a lot has happened in just the last few years! We were thrilled to see Mastercard acquire RiskRecon, KRR acquire Recurly, S&P Global acquire Kensho and Visa acquire, and then un-acquire Plaid (even bigger things to come).  About The Role 

Role and Responsibilities


As the F-Prime Capital technology investment team has expanded, we are looking to bring on our first-ever Director of Platform, to focus on supporting our 40+ technology portfolio companies. This role is for you if you are a natural relationship-builder and an experienced operator, founder or startup evangelist who thrives off working with founders and supporting them in building their businesses. We are looking for someone with a well rounded set of skills and interest that understands what it takes to scale a technology company.  You may have focused your career so far in areas of recruiting, sales, operations, product… or maybe some combination of all of those areas.


The Director of Platform will be a critical part of our small and collaborative team so a natural team player is vital. You will report directly to F-Prime’s Managing Partner and work closely with our Director of Community and our entire investment team. We are looking for someone with innate curiosity, a systems-based approach to problem solving, intellectual aptitude, exceptional interpersonal skills, deep empathy towards others, a bias to action and a collaborative, team orientation.


We expect you to operate at a high-level, but in return you will have significant autonomy and will lead a full range of activities.  Responsibilities will include:


Portfolio companies

  • Actively monitor the activities and priority needs for all portfolio companies, maintaining close relationships with investors and portfolio leadership teams to proactively identify areas of focus for platform activities.

  • Oversee the firm’s onboarding of all new investments, including executing 100-day plans for all founders and designing bespoke platform support strategies.

  • Organize events and workshops for portfolio executives focused on best practice sharing and supporting portfolio community building.

  • Leverage the power of the F-Prime global network by partnering with F-Prime’s global sister partner funds Eight Roads in Europe, India and Asia; tapping into a global pool of talent, insights and customers. International travel as needed to develop relationships and be part of our rich fabric of global investment team relationships.


Relationships and talent

  • Proactively assist portfolio companies with critical talent needs, specifically executive hiring, by making introductions to trusted members of the firm’s community.

  • Build trusted relationships with all members of the F-Prime community, including portfolio company leadership teams.

  • Lead efforts to support portfolio companies in connecting with corporate executives that represent potential customers and strategic partners, including the leadership and innovation teams at Fidelity

  • Manage the F-Prime technology team’s Venture Partner network, working closely to ensure active and meaningful engagement of all Venture Partners, while expanding the program and recruiting new high-quality Venture Partners.

  • Support the investment team with diligence by engaging subject matter experts and Venture Partners. While this is not an investing role, you will have a significant role to play in every investment we make and will be part of all investment decisions.


Platform operations and resources

  • Develop and maintain centralized records of information on all relationships that the firm has in Affinity, F-Prime’s CRM, to comprehensively track and utilize the firm’s relationship knowledge. Identify new systems and tools to more actively track and query firm knowledge in scalable and automated ways.

  • Maintain relationships with key external service providers that are critical to supporting portfolio companies, including executive recruiters, fractional executives, lawyers, banks, executive coaches, PR firms, etc.

  • In partnership with the Director of Community, amplify F-Prime’s brand and marketing efforts including content creation. Support efforts to expand the firm’s community efforts and events, including expanding the firm’s San Francisco community.

  About You 

Professional Qualifications

  • Seasoned professional with a minimum of five years of relevant experience working at a technology company and/or supporting startups in the fields of venture capital, consulting, etc.

  • A passion for technology and venture capital ecosystems. Pays close attention to technology trends and can articulate prospective long-term implications for the industry.

  • Strong sense of empathy for founders and industry executives with the ability to distill what is most important for both sides of an engagement.

  • While candidates may have diverse backgrounds, you likely have operational experience at a high growth startup in functional roles such as recruiting, product, business development, operations or as a founder.  You alternatively may have experience working with these companies as a management consultant, recruiter or other field. While previous experience working at a venture capital firm is not required, it is welcomed.

  • A history of contributing to enduring brands in the past. You may not be a ‘marketer’ by training, but we are looking for someone who cares about the narratives they’re part of Maybe you’ve helped write content or organize event for a previous employer, spend your night and weekends building your personal brand on social media, or manage an instagram for your pet. The F-Prime brand is defined as the sum of the team member’s brands, and we are looking for you to add to our brand in your own unique ways.

  • Previous experience building and engaging communities is a plus, especially in relevant areas of technology.

  • Candidates should have a well-established and respected industry network of entrepreneurs, executives and technology leaders in relevant domains; or the  confidence that they can quickly expand their network to include these groups of individuals.

  • Comfort engaging with senior executives from portfolio companies and corporate partners with an ability to quickly establish credibility and act as a senior member of the F-Prime team in the startup ecosystem.
